Prof. Rudolf Bayer, born 1939, is co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Transaction Software GmbH and is still an important driving force for the Munich based software company. Prof. Rudolf Bayer is the intellectual father of the B-Tree. He studied math in Munich and at the University of Illinois, where he received the title of Ph. D in 1966. In 1972 he was appointed Professor in ordinary of Information Technology at Munich Technical University and until 2003 he held the chair for database systems and knowledge bases. He was active as an adviser for, among others, IBM, Siemens, Amdahl, DEC and Deutsche Telekom, and worked as a guest professor at IBM in the Palo Alto research centre and at various universities in Japan, Australia, the USA and Singapore. Prof. Rudolf Bayer was awarded the German Federal Cross of Merit and received the SIGMOD Innovations Award 2001 and the accolade of the fellowship of the Society for Information Technology (Gesellschaft für Informatik) in 2005.
Dr. Christian Roth, born in 1956, is managing director and one of the founding members of Transaction Software GmbH. He has successfully led the company Transaction Software since it was founded in 1987. He is also responsible for the international business in the USA, Japan and Europe. Dr. Christian Roth studied Information Technology at the Technical university of Munich and obtained his doctorate in 1987. In addition Dr. Christian Roth studied Business Management at the Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich.
