To take advantage of smart home, aggregate processing of sensor data is beneficial. With Transbase® Edge and its crowd functionality you reach this goal. The sensor data is condensed so that the resulting actions can be executed in a fraction of the time than without aggregation. And - think of the GDPR - the owner of the data can control which data may be read and which not.
The Business Process:
In our showcase we will show you how to use the Transbase® Edge for Smart Home Management. We want to optimally manage all households connected to the smartResidence system with regard to temperature and light regulation, ventilation, device control and burglary protection.
The Process Steps:
Every household is equipped with a Transbase® Edge database.
A household is equipped with at least 20 sensors and devices with a measurement volume of 100 bytes per second.
The generated data volume per household is therefore 2 KB per second or 200 MB per day and budget.
A residential complex with 100 households generates 200 KB per second.
A city with 500,000 households generates a data volume of 1 GB per second or 100 TB per day.
Are these amounts of data evaluable in the 'Cloud' within a reasonable timeframe?
As a provider of the smartResidence app, you do not have to worry about it, because with Transbase® Crowd the data stays in the house.
Transbase® Crowd collects and aggregates data from the devices and sensors.
An edge node (Transbase® Edge database of a household) can register or deregister at its parent hub (Crowd) at any time. The aggregate processing of requests by the crowd functionality takes place in the respective household itself (edge computing).
The Hub can specify different timeouts to either get more accurate results sent by more participating edge nodes (households) or to get faster results from fewer participating edge nodes (households).
Cascading specific query results through Transbase® Crowd helps you build a hierarchical system of networked Transbase® Edge nodes (households). Important: The data does not leave the household.
Your smartResidence app receives information simultaneously across multiple Transbase® Crowd instances.
In our example, Transbase® Crowd provides the 'HV hub' with aggregated data from households that are within the care of the property manager. Your smartResidence app wants data from these households? Therefore, it sends the data request to Transbase® Crowd in the 'HV hub'.
How does Transbase® Crowd provide your smartResidence app with data?
Instead of sending the sensor data of each device in each household to be processed in the 'cloud', they simply stay in place. Transbase® Crowd supplies your smartResidence app with aggregated data from the Transbase® Edge nodes in the households.
The tenant / owner of the apartment decides whether or not to provide specific sensor data by allowing his Transbase® Edge node to connect to Transbase® Crowd or not. Transbase® Crowd scales arbitrarily, both in parallel and hierarchically.
