637 KB

Transbase® - Informationen und Lösungen zu speziellen Themen
- A New Database Architecture to cope with frequency and amount of IoT dataThe Internet of Things (IoT) generates data in a never observed frequency and amount. Although it is desired to access those data from a central server, it is by far not possible to transfer and store that data in such a single database server. Therefore we describe a completely decentralized hierarchy of databases to cope with the amount and frequency of data as well as to provide a single overall view on the data at the same time. This decentralized hierarchy has further characteristics that are needed for a scalable, extendible and flexible and secure system design. Last but not least, the privacy of data can be controlled individually. This architecture is fully integrated into the relational database system Transbase and available for various platforms from IoT edge devices throughout large servers160 KB
- How to Convert Existing Transbase® Databases into NLS DatabasesFor historical reasons, character data was stored in arrays of bytes with byte values ranging from 0 to 0x7f (note that we use hexadecimal representation throughout this paper to denote byte values). The so-called 0-byte frequently was used to define the end of a character string and was not permitted to be part of a string. On PCs and UNIX-based systems, the 7-bit ASCII code was typically used to define the interpretation of bytes. E.g. the letter "capital X" was denoted by the byte with value 0x58, while the letter "3" was denoted by 0x33. Byte values higher than 0x7f did not appear, originally the high-order bit was used to denote a so-called parity bit in order to detect eventual transmission errors.340 KB
- Handling of Duplicates in Transbase®Some database systems (like Oracle) allow duplicate tuples to exist within the same table, some other systems (like Transbase) guarantee that duplicates are eliminated, i.e. tables are – mathematically – true sets. The SQL standard permits both implementations.176 KB
- Transbase® on Network Filesystems (NAS)NAS disks provide non-volatile storage over fast LAN connections. For various reasons NAS disks have become very popular and this raises the question if Transbase® can be run on NAS disks. The network protocols used with NAS disks include NFS and SMB.135 KB
- Update Distribution and ReplicationBoth Transbase® and Transbase® CD provide mechanisms for distributing changes made to a server database to client databases. However, the motivation and the goals are different. While Transbase® CD provides several methods to distribute updates, Transbase® also provides replication support for online databases aiming particularly to increase database availability. The replication methods could also be used to distribute updates from a single master database to several slave database.462 KB
- Transbase® Replication ServiceTransbase® databases can be automatically and continuously replicated from a master database. In order to activate this service the master database must be operated with „logging“, and all replicated (slave) databases must be readonly databases.131 KB
